Privacy

The short version: this site doesn't use cookies, doesn't run ads, doesn't track you around the web, and doesn't sell or share anything about you. There are no accounts to sign up for. Here's everything it does touch.

Cookies and browser storage

None. The site doesn't set cookies or store anything in your browser (no localStorage, no sessionStorage), and the analytics below don't either.

Analytics

I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they read, where they came from, what browsers and countries they're in, and how fast pages load. It's cookieless and, in Cloudflare's words, doesn't "fingerprint" individuals. I only ever see totals, never individual visitors.

Hosting and server logs

The site runs on Cloudflare. Like every website, it receives your IP address and basic browser details with each request. Cloudflare keeps short-lived request logs (up to a week) that I use only to debug the site. Cloudflare's own handling of that data is covered by its privacy policy.

The contact form

What you type into the contact form (your name, email, subject, and message) is emailed straight to me. It isn't stored on this site, and your email address is used only so I can reply. To keep spam bots out, that page runs a Cloudflare Turnstile check, which looks at your browser (and your IP address) to decide you're a human.

Content from other services

A few pages show images or videos straight from other sites, so your browser connects to those sites, and they see your IP address and browser the way any website would:

  • Film posters from Letterboxd on the home page.
  • Video thumbnails from YouTube on QFTI and Friends, and YouTube videos embedded in some blog posts. The song player on Friends uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced (no-cookie) player and only loads when you press play.
  • Avatars, images, and GIFs from Bluesky (and its GIF provider) in blog comments.
  • Blog images, served from my own WordPress install at blog.jesse.id.

Everything else is a plain link, and nothing loads from those sites until you click one.

Bluesky comments

The comments under blog posts are public replies to my Bluesky posts announcing them. Replies I hide on Bluesky don't show up here, and neither do posts from accounts that asked Bluesky not to show their posts to logged-out people. Delete a reply on Bluesky and it disappears from here the next time the site refreshes that thread, or ask me and I'll hide it.

Your location

The site never asks for it. The sky and weather in the header reflect my corner of the world, not yours.
