/Friends

The idea of a /friends page is to celebrate my friends by doing a little blurb and linking to where you can find their stuff. I swiped this idea from slashfriends.org, which was introduced to me by its creator Nick Gray.

The Homies

Steve Zaragoza and Hayley smiling together in an outdoor selfie

Steve Zaragoza

Steve is a comedian most known for his work on SourceFed and The Valleyfolk. He is a co-host of the Dynamic Banter podcast and the co-creator of Gray Bones In A Grave. We spend several hours per week together playing Fortnite, watching movies, or scrolling through his minefield of a reels algorithm. He’s the funniest person I’ve ever met and one of my closest pals. Also pictured is Hayley, who is very sweet and awesome. We watch LOTS of stuff together.

Felicia Schembari taking a mirror selfie in a vampire costume with a ruffled Victorian shirt

Felicia Schembari

Felicia is an artist and is one of my best frienbaris. We have a very brother & sister style of relationship where she yells at me a lot, and I think that is fun to cause, so I keep doing whatever it is that made her yell at me. She hates Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush, for example, and me singing “Heathcliff, it’s me, I’m Cathy” several times in a row — which also makes Casey start doing it too — is one of the recent yelling catalysts.

Beff smiling in a close-up selfie

Beff

Beff is one of my Beff friends, or Beth friends if you’re into government names. She’s one of the sweetest and funniest people I know. She doesn’t do bits professionally like some of my other comedy friends, so I’ve got secret access to goofs & gags that should be going viral, but they’re just for me and the homies. Louisiana’s finest. Most likely to be doing grandma shit.

Casey Landerkin in a wide-brimmed hat topped with a handmade trout, against a sunset sky

Casey Landerkin

Casey is my favorite artist and one of my favorite people. She’s one of the few brave souls in the world that will watch weird documentaries with me, no questions asked. One of those rare friends you meet that just brightens up everyone and everything around them. Any interaction is a guaranteed smile, or a laugh, and it’s also interesting that she’s the leader of a horse cult.

A red arrow pointing at a Dynamic Banter poster of Ryan Farroki’s smiling face while Steve Zaragoza talks, unbothered

Ryan Farroki

Ryan is a video editor, former editor and producer of the Dynamic Banter podcast, and the current editor of the Let’s Get Haunted podcast. He’s a genuinely good dude. He’s also got one of my favorite senses of humor and a dead pan delivery that literally never misses. He’s just one of those naturally funny people that doesn’t have to try. There are multiple friend-group bits that we all do now that just started off being normal things that Ryan said. He’s the only person I’ve ever met who may actually have worse ADHD than I do.

Owen Carter facing away from the camera, sizing up a display of Stormtrooper figures

Owen Carter

Owen is a very talented musician and video editor. He’s the lead editor and producer of Gray Bones in a Grave. We worked together on the Dream Warriors’ Bill & Ted’s Excellent Remake (pw: bogus), a full comedy reboot of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and we’ve been hanging out together ever since — mostly in Fortnite and Bigscreen VR. Recently, I helped to make one of his music dreams come true and now he owes me BIG TIME. It took me 5 years to get his phone number and I’m not sure he has ever participated in social media, so no links for Owen.

Christian Gatica in a cap and glasses at night near a stop sign

Christian Gatica

Christian is a video editor, a record collector, and a DJ. We spend most of our time together in Fortnite and VR cracking jokes, talking about movies, or sharing music back and forth on IG. He’s got an incredible laugh and somehow finds a way to annoy Felicia more than I do, which is crazy. He’s a Phoebe Bridgers head like me, and also like Heather, who introduced me to Phoebe Bridgers. Not to gush about Heather in Christian’s blurb, but she’s put me on to so much good music. Christian’s a real one too, though.

Mike Falzone in a beanie above a breaking-news chyron that reads “I’m not gay”

Mike Falzone

Mike is a stand-up comedian, photographer, musician, co-host of the Dynamic Banter podcast, and a former host of SourceFed. We got close during COVID, played a bunch of Fortnite together, played a bunch of Jackbox together, and I love getting to see all of his successes keep stacking up back out in the real world. We’re good for a random deep conversation once or twice a year and if I share music on IG, I’m getting a heart like 50% of the time. In baseball, that’s a hall of fame career.

Heather Zink standing in front of a vintage camper

Heather Zink

Heather is a comedian that makes very funny videos and when she’s not doing that, she’s healing children or introducing me to great bands like Manchester Orchestra and Michigander. I like to take credit for her moving to Los Angeles and blowing up because one time in passing I said, “You should move to Los Angeles, you’ll do great.” and then she eventually did. We do arts & crafts together and sometimes play Fortnite, or rather I play Fortnite and watch her character go limp for several seconds when she’s texting.

Tatiana Day and Adam smiling together in an outdoor selfie

Tatiana Day

Tatiana is an OG COVID friend with the cutest dog you’ve ever seen. We spent many nights of the pandemic going down music rabbit holes together, sharing a love of a sick harmony, and we do Discord hangs for arts & crafts with Felicia, Beff, Heather, Casey, and Adam (pictured). She helps the Sweet Relief Musician’s Fund to raise money for musicians and industry workers in need. We call her TATANNNNAAAAHH and she rules. S-tier human being.

Matt Raub singing into a microphone in a floral shirt

Matt Raub

Matt is a sometimes-comedian, two-time Streamy award–winning guy, and the reason why our VR Discord server has a channel called #magma-toilet. He is the closest match to my music taste according to Spotify and we both love the movie Rad (1986). One of the funniest and trolliest dudes I know. I’m also friends with his brother Mark who is just as funny and trolly. Something’s in that Raub water.

His latest project is Celebrity Death Snatch, which is a live event in L.A. that mixes wrestling, comedy, burlesque, dancing, and mayhem!

Elliott Morgan in a sleeveless denim vest and sunglasses, standing beside a dog

Dr. Elliott Morgan

Elliott is a stand-up comedian, co-host of the Fundamentalists podcast, former SourceFed host, and just got his doctorate in depth psychology. I am the technical producer on his new project, The Dr. Elliott Morgan Streaming Emporium. I think he calls it that, anyway. He recently told me he loves me and it shocked me into just kind of saying it back. We’ll drill down into that during our next session, I’m sure. This is how he normally dresses.

Harley Morenstein entering a boxing ring with gloves raised in front of a crowd

Harley Morenstein

Harley is a professional boxer, a gamer, a DJ, and the co-founder of Epic Meal Time. We spend a lot of time together in VR scrolling through Steve’s abomination of an algorithm and laughing like hyenas. He’s easily the most chaotic person that I’ve ever met in my life. His energy level is always turned up to 11 in the most fun ways. We have stayed up very late sharing lots of laughs many times. He’s a good dude and I think the only Canadian on this page other than Adam. A great ambassador.

Nicholas Hamilton in a black turtleneck at a movie premiere

Nicholas Hamilton

Nicholas is an actor, a musician, and the author of SIPSY-DOOZY | 100+ Respectfully Crafted Recipes for the Home Bartender. He is probably most recognizable as Henry Bowers in the IT movies, but he’s great in everything he does. We have played Fortnite together many, many times, and also VR mini-golf. One time I texted him that I spilled marinara sauce on my shirt and I was covered in ants. I think it did irrevocable damage to our friendship but time heals all wounds.

“Friends”

Chris McCaleb smiling in front of a Better Call Saul backdrop HE COUNTS!

Chris McCaleb

Chris is an award winning video editor on Pluribus, Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, but most importantly, he worked on the Dream Warriors’ Bill & Ted’s Excellent Remake (pw: bogus) with Matt, Steve, Owen, Ryan, Nick, myself and 20-ish other editors during COVID. He hosts Vince Gilligan’s after-show podcasts and for that reason, somewhere in the Better Call Saul after-show podcast episodes, Chris shouts me out for helping him fix an audio issue. We’ve only spoken a few times in text, but he would immediately know my name if he heard it, and I’m nearly positive he would hug me with at least one arm if I looked really sad about it not happening.

Anna Lore headshot with long hair and a sheer blouse SHE COUNTS!

Anna Lore

Anna is an actress who was in the #1 hit Final Destination: Bloodlines recently, and a bunch of other stuff as well. When she’s not doing that, she’s playing Fortnite with me at least five times in total. Maybe 10. We came very close to playing online poker together at least once as well. She would recognize my full name if you gave her like 5 seconds and like just a little context — like a smidge. Something like, “You know, Jesse? Steve’s friend. No, the other Jesse. No, like the other other Jesse. The nerd. Fortnite.”

Nick Gray in a green suit against a bright yellow background HE COUNTS!

Nick Gray

Nick is my newest friend — a mysterious Internet friend. I commented about Cloudflare somewhere and my name is @jesse_dot_id so he went to jesse.id and reached out because he liked my website and he’s also a Cloudflare evangelist. One of us, one of us. We do actually have a lot in common, but I’m not convinced he’s real yet. To be fair, there isn’t really a way to convince him that I’m real either. I don’t really care. It’s about time I got tricked by AI. Anyway, he runs slashfriends.org and that’s the reason this /friends page exists now.
